A Churidar is the second most popular ethnic wear item in India after the saree. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the elite and royal class popularized this attire. Churidar dresses for women became widely available in the fashion markets in local communities over time. In general, churidars feature skin-fit bottoms with stitching around the waist and thighs, as well as a skin-fit bottom all the way to the ankle, where it forms pleats called "churi."
