The Different Types Of Leheriya Outfits You Can Wear For Summer

India's Rajasthan State produces a simple type of tie-dye known as leheriya or leheria. This is usually done in vibrant hues. The striped pattern is very distinctive. Leheriya fabric was first developed in the 19th century, and it has remained a popular fashion choice since then. It is one of the most popular tie-dye designs.

Leheriya's light and vibrant colors are ideal for spring and summer. Leheriya Kurti and Dupattas are unique in their appearance. It can be adorned with a solid-colored salwar kameez.

In the end, it can also be paired with Indo-Western attire to add a splash of color and vibrancy.

What is the Leheriya?

The ancient tie-and-dye art of Leheria or Leheriya is practiced in Rajasthan, India, particularly in the towns of Jaipur and Jodhpur. The term "leheriya" refers to a wave-like pattern that symbolizes the rich and unique costumes of Rajasthan.

The Leheriya tie and dye process is a tie-and-dye technique applied to white fabrics that produce vibrantly colored complex designs in the style of a wave. The work of leheria is done on silk or cotton fabrics, and on long and broad surfaces, such as turbans and saris.

A Leheria is characterized by the way resists are folded and tied before dyeing in order to create striking designs of color and pattern.

Turbans made of Leheriya are very popular in Rajasthan. However, the Leheriya fabric like sarees and, more recently, the Kurti and salwar kameez are the most popular internationally.

Rajasthani tradition states that Lehariya contains five colors that represent the Rajasthani system of coloring. Rajasthani design is characterized by rippled flower patterns that are applied to fabrics like chiffon and silk.

Lehariya designs look elegant and classy when done on white fabric. Nowadays, women are extremely attracted to Lehariya designs because of their intricate work and glamorous appeal.

So, Lehariya salwar kameez has become one of the most popular varieties of Kurti and salwar kameez among women.

How Did The Wave Pattern Evolve?

To weave yarn into cloth, we first need to achieve the basic weaving technique. Then, tying and dyeing take place. Even though tie-and-dye is a common process in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Madurai, each place has its own unique interpretation based on tradition, choice of colors, popular designs, and other factors that are specific to that place.

When dyeing fabric, small knots are tied on a pre-traced or stamped pattern to protect these areas. For example, the waves have a large area that remains undyed in the colored regions that take the form of undulating stripes but are shaped like a wave with crests and troughs to add variety.

It involves rolling the fabric diagonally from one corner to the opposite selvage and tying resists to various spots.

Selvages represent the self-finished edges of a fabric that are caused by looping back the thread from the weft (the thread that runs parallel to the weft threads) at the end of each row. This prevents the fabric from unraveling.

Leheriya's diversity

In leheriya, a tie-resist technique, stripes are formed by rolling up a fabric, tying it up, and dyeing it. Leheriya is given to such a pattern because it resembles the leher wave, a symbol of rain and abundance in the arid landscape of the region.

In addition to the leheriya, there is the Mothra, which is very popular and widely accepted. The design consists of two diagonals that cross each other, creating rectangular spaces within the checks that look like moths or pulses.

To achieve a distinctly pure color, the dyes are designed to release or remove unwanted colors, and the lines are designed to have a visually graphic quality so that they are easily seen and distinguished.

A tie-and-dye assures color penetration into the innermost parts of the coil or roll of fabric.

The Leheriya designs are mostly worn during Gangaur, which marks the arrival of Spring, while the Mothra designs are typically worn during the festival of Teej, which marks the arrival of the monsoon season.

To begin with, a Lehariya Kurti or salwar kameez is going to look great with some oxidized silver jewelry like silver earrings.

Due to the fact that Lehariya salwar kameez is mostly worn during the summer, wearing it with some embroidered Kohlapuri sandals will make for a stylish and comfortable look.

A Lehariya Kurti, sari, or salwar kameez is going to look great with light jewelry. Lehariya kurtas, sarees, and salwar kameez will look brilliant when accessorized with silver bracelets or simple crystal beaded necklaces.
